MERS疫情持續發燒，讓台灣民眾也緊張起來，現在網路上就出現各種預防MERS病毒的偏方，像是南韓網路就謠傳，吃泡菜和蒜頭，甚至在鼻子下方塗凡士林，說是可以預防病毒入侵，還有台灣則是流傳，把中藥材金銀花和板藍根，泡成茶來喝，也能預防MERS，不過醫師說，這些都是無稽之談，不想病毒上身，還是戴口罩、勤洗手比較實際。

南韓MERS全境擴散，成為全球疫情，第二嚴重的國家，在首爾街頭已經可以看到不少民眾戴上口罩，只是在恐慌時刻，南韓的網路上，卻出現了一堆奇怪的抗MERS偏方，要預防MERS，韓國人最愛的泡菜，再度榮登抗病毒神器，只不過它真的有效嗎？偏方五花八門，除了吃醃漬的泡菜，生吃大蒜說能增強身體抵抗力。還有在房間裡放洋蔥，也幫助殺菌，最誇張的還有在鼻子上塗凡士林，說是黏稠物質，可以防MERS病毒。

但都被專家一一駁斥。營養師張斯蘭：「如果說你想靠一個大蒜或是泡菜，來增強自己的免疫，來消滅這些病毒的話，事實上是不太可能只靠這2個食物。」別說韓國人很瞎，因為台灣人也流傳自己的撇步，像是曾經在SARS期間，紅翻天的中藥材金銀花和板藍根，也有人說把它們加在一起，泡成茶喝，也有預防MERS功效，但中醫師聽了則是直搖頭。民間偏方都沒經過證實，想預防MERS，曾經是醫師出身的，台北市長柯文哲說，只要兩招就夠了，這種坊間就能，買得到的外科口罩，只要到疫區時，隨身攜帶，還有多多洗手，另外發燒咳嗽時立刻就醫，才不會讓防疫工作，白忙一場。
